Mike and I have a nickname for ourselves. And it’s not Mike’s fault.
Let me give you a little visual hint.
Mike + Jess = Mess. Mike’s sort of guilty by association in that little word-play. Like his responsibility ends with the fact that his name begins with “M.”
I, on the other hand, like to get my hands, and everything within a 100 feet of me, dirty. So although photos I post here often look like this:
My projects often look more like this: (The scene of a recent DIY snowglobe crime.)
Perhaps that’s what appeals to me so much about the site Things Organized Neatly. My visually-minded friend, Mauricio, introduced me to it a while back and it’s become my refuge every time my life looks like it’s been run through a food processor. Which is most days.

There’s something so beautiful about the mundanities of life displayed so simply. Something the submitters on this Things Organized Neatly do so well though is to turn those ordinary objects into their own art form.
My goal with Make and Do Girl to chronicle my pursuit of creating beauty (and messes—let us not forget who we’re talking about here) every day. So I personally find a lot of photography inspiration in these photos. After all, blog photos, at least of the DIY variety, are often of everyday objects. And something I’ve noticed about the blog photography that I tend to gravitate to is that it doesn’t have to be the most earth-shattering photo to pull me in, it just needs to be thoughtfully captured.

These are a few of my favorite submissions, but there are so many more to admire. Perhaps you’ll find inspiration next time you’re snapping a photo of the contents of your breakfast plate. If nothing else, I hope you find these photos a surefire way to lower your blood pressure and make your life make sense again like I do.
