Overall Pattern Notes
- Check out this guide if you're new to reading crochet patterns.
- Pattern can be made using the accent color for the ribbing (dark hat example), or the main color for the ribbing and the hat (light hat example).
- Instructions are written with the stitch count for the smallest size first and each larger size following in parentheses, for example: Preemie (Baby, Toddler, Child, Tween, Women, and Men). It can be very helpful to highlight the numbers for your size before beginning the project. When only one number is given, it pertains to all sizes.
- Stitch counts at the end of each round are for given sizes.
- Ch 3 at beginning of rounds counts as 1 dc throughout.

Pattern Gauge
Ribbing: 18 sts and 14 rows = 4”
Main hat: 15 dc and [5 dc rounds + 4 chsp rounds] = 4”
!! Gauge Check !!
Checking your gauge can help ensure your finished hat is the expected size and uses the predicted amount of yarn.
Here's how to check your gauge:
Complete 20 rows of ribbing instructions below. Measure center four inches of swatch vertically and horizontally. Compare to the ribbing gauge listed above. If there are too many stitches in 4” horizontally, increase your hook size and try again. If there aren’t enough stitches in 4” horizontally, decrease your hook size and try again.
Once ideal hook size is confirmed, continue with your ribbing until you have the correct number of rows for your size.
Ribbing
Ribbing is worked under the back loop only (blo) of each stitch except the first and last stitch of the row. Work under both loops in the first and last stitch to give the edges more structure when picking up the stitches for the main body of the hat.
Darker Hat: With Color B:
Lighter Hat: With Color C:
Foundation Row: Ch 15 (17, 19, 21, 23, 25, 25).

Row 1: Sc in second chain from hook, sc in each ch to end of row; turn. (14 (16, 18, 20, 22, 24, 24) sts)
Row 2: Ch 1, sc through both loops of first st, scblo in each st until 1 st remains, sc through both loops of last st.
Repeat Row 2 [34 (42, 48, 56, 62, 66, 70)] more times for a total of 36 (44, 50, 58, 64, 68, 72) rows. Visually, this should look like 18 (22, 25, 29, 32, 34, 36) “bumps” of ribbing. Keep yarn attached.
Fold ribbing rectangle into a loop.
Continuing with attached yarn: Line up last ribbing row and ribbing foundation chain. Slip stitch in each stitch to join, inserting hook under the foundation chain and the outer loops of the final row of ribbing. Fasten off.
