3 Days to Done Ripple Blanket - Free Pattern

Give the gift of handmade comfort—fast! I'm talking a start-to-finish blanket project that only takes three days, (or spend a bit more time making one of the larger sizes.) The rhythmic ripple stitch pattern keeps things interesting without being complicated, making it perfect for stress-free crocheting.

Whether you need a thoughtful wedding gift, a cozy comfort for someone recovering from surgery, or a housewarming present, this blanket is a handmade gift homerun.

    Skill Level

This is an intermediate level pattern because it requires stitch recognition and counting. Once you understand the pattern repeat though, it's a super mediative make.

    In this pattern, you'll practice:

    • basic stitches and stitch combos
    • measuring gauge
    • pattern reading

    Three Day Blanket Video Tutorial

Learn how to crochet your three day ripple blanket step-by-step in the video tutorial below.

    Overall Ripple Blanket Pattern Notes

    • If you’re new to reading crochet patterns, check out more info here.
    • Instructions are written with the stitch count for the smallest size first and each larger size following in parentheses, for example: lapghan (throw, extra long throw, twin, double, queen, king). It can be very helpful to highlight the numbers for your size before beginning the project. When only one number is given, it pertains to all sizes. Stitch counts at the end of each row are for given sizes.

We'll email you this so you can come back to it later!

    • Lapghan and throw sized blankets can be finished in about three days. The larger sizes will take more time.
    • Blanket is reversible so there is no right or wrong side.
    • IMPORTANT: The chain three at the beginning of each row counts as a stitch throughout, but do not skip a stitch at the beginning of the row.

    !! Gauge Check !!

Please don’t skip this step, or you will risk your blanket not being the size you expect.

    Foundation Row: Ch 33.

Row 1:  Dc in fourth ch from hook, dc in next 6 ch, sk 2 ch, dc in next 6 ch, ch 2, dc in next 6 ch, skip 2 ch, dc in next 6 ch, 2 dc in last ch; turn. (28 sts + one ch2sp)

Row 2 - 3: Ch 3, dc in first dc, dc in next 6 dc, sk 2 dc, dc in next 5 dc (dc, ch 2, dc) in ch2sp,  dc in next 5 dc, sk 2 dc, dc in next 6 dc, 2 dc in top of tch; turn.

Row 4: Ch 3, dc in first dc, (ch 1, sk next dc, dc in next dc) three times, *sk 2 dc, dc next dc, (ch 1, sk 1 dc, 1 dc in next dc) two times, (dc, ch 2, dc) in ch2sp, dc in next dc, (ch 1, sk 1 dc, dc in next dc) two times rep from * until 9 sts remain, sk 2 dc, dc in next dc, (ch 1, sk 1 dc, 1 dc in next dc) two times, ch 1, sk 1 dc, 2 dc in top of tch; turn.

Row 5: Ch 3, 1 dc in first dc, (dc in next dc, dc in next ch1sp) three times, *sk 2 dc, (dc in ch1sp, dc in next dc) two times, dc in next dc , (dc, ch 2, dc) in ch2sp, dc in next dc, (dc in next dc, dc in next ch1sp) two times, rep from * until 9 sts remain, sk 2 dc. (dc in ch1sp, dc in next dc) three times, 2 dc in top of tch; turn.

    Repeat Rows 2-5 once more.

Measure one “peak to peak” repeat vertically and horizontally. Compare to pattern gauge listed above.

    • If there are too many stitches in 4” horizontally, increase your hook size and re-swatch.
    • If there aren’t enough stitches in 4” horizontally, decrease your hook size and re-swatch.

Blocking: While blocking isn’t essential with a project like this, you may do a light steam blocking using either a steamer or iron with steam setting. Do not touch steamer or iron directly to yarn. Detailed info here.
