This easy granny stitch ripple blanket is a real joy to make as it uses simple melodic stitches and extremely smooth yarn. A combination of modern colors and soft, machine washable yarns make this blanket a perfect unisex crochet baby shower gift.

The Pattern Inspiration
A while back I was trying to figure out how to use Lion Brand’s Baby Soft Boucle yarn in a fast crochet baby blanket without dealing with some of the typical frustrations a boucle yarn can pose. I came up with the idea of using a granny stitch because it eliminates the need to search for your stitches in a fuzzy yarn. (See more of our free crochet patterns that use the granny stitch here!)
The Tributary Blanket pattern (pictured above) was born and my mom stitched it up beautifully. I know you have loved it too because I’m often tagged in stunning variations of the pattern on Instagram.
Just like the Tributary Blanket, the granny stitch in this pattern makes it really easy to work with Baby Soft Boucle. Paired with Lion Brand’s Feels Like Butta, this quick crochet baby blanket pattern is so effortless to work up. In fact, can be made in a weekend with very little concentration or hubbub.

The Skills You’ll Need To Crochet This Quick Blanket
Since this quick crochet baby blanket uses a granny ripple stitch, you’ll be working almost entirely in double crochet. This helps this pattern move along swiftly. Once the basic ripple repeat is established, you won’t need to do any counting.
Can I substitute yarns?
In between the time this pattern was designed and crocheted and when the pattern was set to publish, the Baby Soft Boucle yarn was sadly discontinued. Such a bummer!
Luckily, Lion Brand still has some so you can order a complete kit with all the yarn and a copy of the pattern from Lion Brand here. You also might be able to find it at certain retailers or online. (Get Baby Soft Boucle from Amazon, from Joann and from Herrschners. )
If you would like to substitute a different yarn for the Baby Soft Boucle stripes, I suggest looking for anything that has nice texture and is approximately a category 4 or 5 yarn. The granny stitch accommodates some variation in yarn thickness.
Two yarns that would work beautifully as substitutes are Lion Brand Homespun and Go For Faux. Both are really soft and will add a textured stripe of coziness throughout the blanket. Another yarn that I haven’t used, but is similar to Baby Soft Boucle is Bernat Pipsqueak. You can also always check out YarnSub.com to see what suggested yarns are available in your area.
If nothing else, simply use a third color of Feels Like Butta (or whatever yarn you’re using for the main blanket) and all will be good!

This quick crochet baby blanket pattern is one of those funny crochet projects where the pattern lingo is so much more complicated than the actual stitches themselves.

Purchase a kit that contains all the yarn you need + a printed copy of the pattern here.
• Lion Brand Feels Like Butta (Weight: 4/medium – 218 yds, 3.5 oz)
– Color A: Pale Grey (#215-149) – 5 skeins (approx. 500 g)
– Color B: Orange (#215-133) – 3 skeins (approx. 300 g)
• Lion Brand Baby Soft Boucle (Weight: 4/bulky – 120 yds, 3.5 oz)
– Color C: White (#918-100) – 4 skeins (approx. 400 g)
Note: Since pattern was written, Baby Soft Boucle has been discontinued. You can substitute Lion Brand Homespun, Lion Brand Go For Faux or Bernat Pipsqueak instead or simply use a third color of Feels Like Butta.

Notes:
• To modify the width of your blanket, work a multiple of 36 + 1, then add 12 for the foundation chain. (Doing so will change the amount of yarn you need.)
• Ch 3 counts as 1 dc throughout.
• Work these instructions while following along with the “Stripe Pattern” section that follows.
• Important: Rows in colors A and B are worked holding two strands together. Rows worked in color C are worked using a single strand. (If substituting a third color the same yarn as used for A and B, simply hold two strands together.)
