    3.5K shares

This quick lacy crochet scarf pattern is within reach even if you’re new to crocheting lace. The simple lace stitch repeat is easy to memorize and works up fast in worsted weight yarn. And with just the right mix of squishy stitches and airyness, you can enjoy wearing this pretty, feminine crochet lace scarf year round.

Get the free scarf pattern below or you can purchase the ad-free, printable PDF here.

    Easy Lace Crochet Scarf Pattern

Have you been waiting to attempt a delicately beautiful lacy crochet scarf?

Maybe you’ve intimidated, worried that it takes too much skill to crochet lace –especially for something as large as a scarf.

Today I’ll show you that anyone can learn how to crochet a lace scarf.

This pattern is easy enough that advanced-beginners can follow it. And it’s faster than traditional crochet lace because we’re using worsted weight yarn instead of thin thread. Three cheers for fast crochet projects!

The Petal Web Lacy Crochet Stitch

Many people think it takes lots of experience to learn how to crochet lacy stitches. But actually, all you need to know to make the Floret Lace Shawl is the absolute basics.

This easy-peasy version of lace creates pretty “petals” with double crochet stitches. It’s a world apart from the traditional, tatted crochet lace patterns.

You’re going to love wearing this pretty new accessory. And the Floret Scarf makes an impressive (and quick) crochet gift, too!

Why you’ll love this lacy crochet scarf pattern!

    • Not complicated: this is entry-level lace
    • Easy repeat: you’ll have it memorized after a few rows
    • Faster progress: worsted weight yarn makes for quick, cozy lace

How to Crochet a Lacy Crochet Scarf

This is a lace scarf pattern that even a beginner can tackle, but it’s still beautiful and feminine looking. If you like pretty, wearable crochet projects that work up fast, this is a perfect lace scarf pattern for you!

The petal web crochet stitch in progress.

You’ll use double crochets to create the Petal stitch.

This lacy scarf can be styled in a variety of ways.

A woman standing outdoors with her face turned away while wearing and holding a pink floret lace scarf.

It’s plush and squishy enough to create volume when worn as a scarf…

…But it spreads out into an airy shawl if you’d prefer a more delicate look.

PRO TIP: Use the stitch multiple listed in the free pattern below if you’d like to modify the width of your scarf.

    Pattern Overview Video

I talk you through the entire Floret Lace Scarf in this brief video. Learn more about the skills and yarn needed to learn how to crochet this easy lace scarf pattern.

    Customizing Your Scarf

This is my favorite part! I love making each crochet pattern my own.

There are many ways to customize this lace scarf. Here are some ideas to get you started:

    • Adjust the dimensions. Change the width of your scarf using the stitch multiple listed in the pattern. Because it is a multiple of 4+3, you would chain in multiples of 4 until your scarf was as wide as you wanted. Then you would chain 3 more. Remember, this will change how much yarn your lace scarf needs.
    • Vary your yarn. Treat yourself with alpaca or merino wool. Use thicker yarn for an extra plush blanket scarf. Or hold two strands of your favorite yarns together for a thicker effect that also changes the look and texture. Try using one DK weight strand held together with a strand of mohair to give your lace stitches more of a “halo.”
    • Use your own palette. Your artist’s imagination is the limit when it comes to color! Try a color block pattern in your favorite shades or an ombre pattern. Or try self-striping yarn or a yarn cake and see how the colors work out in the lace stitches.

    Yarn + Substitutions

I used Lion Brand Heartland yarn for this lace scarf. It’s wonderfully soft, and so easy to work with. Heartland is a premium acrylic with a heathery effect in tons of pretty shades, and it’s really easy to care for.

It’s one of my go-tos for almost any crochet sweater pattern, and you’ll find a shade for any mood or person. You can check out Heartland in action in the Habitat Cardigan, Elevation Cardigan and the Stained Glass Cowl.

Three Lion Brand Heartland yarn skeins with an in-progress lace pattern crochet scarf and a wooden hook.

    Substitutions

If Lion Brand Heartland is not available near you, you can check YarnSub.com for similar suggestions. You can also see what people are making with Heartland yarn on Ravelry. If you look at the Floret Lace Shawl project page, you may also discover additional yarn options other makers have used.

    Hook Choice for Crochet Lace

With a worsted weight yarn like we’re using here, we’re going to make sure the gauge is fairly loose and open. That’s why we’re using a size L (9 mm) crochet hook.

Gauge is very personal though. It’s always okay to adjust your hook size to meet the pattern gauge listed below, especially if you’re using a different yarn to crochet your lace scarf than Lion Brand Heartland.

    • If swatch is measuring too large vertically, make an effort to work the loops of each single crochet a little tighter.

Common Questions About Lace Crochet Patterns

What is a lacy crochet stitch?

A lacy crochet stitch creates a lightweight, open fabric. Some open, lacy crochet stitches I like are the triangles and cones lace stitch, the snowflake stitch, the lacy shell stitch, the angel stitch, and of course the trusty V stitch.

To make something look lacy, you choose double crochet stitches (dc) or longer stitches like triple crochet (tc). You also use chains and other ways to add space to the pattern. In the Floret Lace Scarf pattern, we create flower “petals” with simple double crochet stitches.

How do you crochet an easy lacy scarf?

To crochet an easy lacy scarf, first choose an open, airy crochet stitch. Pair it with a worsted weight yarn so that the scarf is easy enough to crochet quickly. Use your desired stitch to create a rectangle that fits the dimensions of your desired scarf size.

Alternatively, just follow the Floret easy lacy scarf pattern above and you’ll have all the details iron of for you.

Is it hard to crochet lace?

Crochet lace is not difficult if you choose an easy lace stitch or pattern. The Floret Lace Scarf, for example, is made entirely with double crochet. If you can do a double crochet stitch, you can do this petal web stitch, too.

Lace puff stitches are a nice option for crocheting delicate and cozy triangle scarves.

    More Crochet Stitches for Scarves

The Floret Lacy Scarf is a simple rectangle made from a cool open crochet stitch. Pretty easy concept, right? If you’d you like to design your own crochet scarf pattern, here are a few unique crochet stitches that I think could work really well.

    • Many of these Tunisian crochet stitches are quite easy and would make for a cozy scarf
    • Choose any of these multi-color stitches and you’ll be well on your way to a gorgeous scarf.
    • The herringbone double crochet stitch is a simple variation of double crochet. See how it looks in the Bixby Cowl Pattern.
    • A corner to corner crochet scarf is really fun if you’d like to create a graphic pattern within your shawl.
    • If triangle scarves are your favorite, this tutorial will teach you how to increase in Tunisian crochet to create any sized triangle scarf.
